[UPDATE 6 p.m.] Power Outages Increase in Southbury Thursday

Over 3,600 remain without power in Southbury.

UPDATE (6 p.m.): Southbury started the day Thursday with 34 percent of town, 3,425 homes, without power, according to CL&P – things have not improved. In fact, they have gotten worse.

As of 6 p.m. this evening 37 percent of town, 3,654 homes, are heading into Thursday night in the dark, according to CL&P.

Crews have been in the area throughout the afternoon and some residents in the Purchase section of Southbury have reported regaining power, but overall, outages have increased Thursday.

34 percent, 3,425 homes, are without power as of 9:30 a.m. Thursday, according to CL&P. Southbury outage numbers have stayed constant with statewide outage numbers throughout the week. The state also has a 34 percent outage rate. Southbury does fare better than many surrounding towns, posting a significantly lower percentage of outages than Woodbury, Middlebury and Newtown.

The Southbury Town Hall remains open, and their phone lines have been restored this morning.

CL&P has set Sunday at 11:59 p.m. as the deadline for 99 percent of Southbury households to regain power.
