Community Update

It has been nearly two weeks since the Republican-American reported financial "irregularities" in Southbury's  Department of Parks & Recreation.  This is a Department that has been   allowed to act outside the confines of town ordinance and state law going back to the former Director, Pat Regan. Additionally, there is more than sufficient blame that can be placed on the Board of Selectmen and Parks & Recreation Commission members, who permit the Department to function in a lawless manner.  Let us not forget that it was not too long ago that former Director, Diane Schaefer was found guilty of some corruptions that resulted in her being forced to resign.  Other possible "irregularities" may include issuing fraudulent permits to use municipal property, misuse of town designated open space areas, destroying wetlands and the failure to lawfully complying with covenants in deeds of real property.  I suggest that the Department's "irregularities" are not limited to this one Department, but may run throughout Southbury's Departments and Commissions.  I would like to have the Republican-American inform the public as to what happened with $800 of what is public money!
