Pet Aesthetics Hosting Pet Groom-A-Thon to Benefit Luck2Tuck Foundation to Fight Leukemia

On Sunday, March 9 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Pet Aesthetics Salon and Boutique at 134 Main Street South in Southbury will host their second annual Pet Groom-A-Thon. “We are very proud to host this fundraiser event,” stated owner Susan Marucci, “because 100% of all the money we raise will be donated directly to the Luck2Tuck Foundation to help fight AML Leukemia.” The Foundation supports childhood cancer research; families who have a child in need of care; and the Tucker Gowen Memorial Scholarship Fund at Pomperaug High School in Southbury.

“We are hosting our 2nd Annual Pet Groom-A-Thon as our way of giving back to a community that has been so supportive of our business for the past 14 years, and of so many families in the Southbury area,” stated Marucci. “Tucker Gowen was only 18 when he died on October 9, 2012 from Acute Myeloid (AML) Leukemia. His mother Jennifer Gowen created the Luck2Tuck Foundation hoping to fund a memorial scholarship in Tucker’s name. We wanted to help so I created the first Pet Groom-A-Thon in 2012 to help raise funds, and since that time a great deal has happened.

Many people have stepped up to pay it forward since the founding of the Luck2Tuck Foundation in 2012. In November of 2013, former Southbury residents Todd and Greg Wilson, childhood friends of Jennifer Gowen raised $50,000 by running the Rock N Roll Marathon in Las Vegas. That donation will perpetually fund the Tucker Gowen Memorial Scholarship at Pomperaug High School with a generous $2,500 scholarship annually. Recently the Foundation was also able to generously donate $25,000 to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston which will support a clinical trial for Pediatric AML Leukemia.”

Marucci added, “We raised $3,075 during our 1st Pet Groom-A-Thon in 2012. We groomed 39 dogs and 3 cats that one day. This year we have 8 volunteers who will help us make our fundraising ambitions an even bigger success. We know that everyone can help make a true difference in remembering Tucker Gowen by hammering down against childhood cancer.”

Pet Aesthetics, a pet grooming salon and a gift and natural foods supplies boutique, is located two doors down from the Hen of the Woods café and restaurant in the Bennett Square Plaza. “We offer a very caring, holistic approach to grooming and the health of the animals that are brought into our pet-centered environment and grooming salon,” explained Marucci. “In our retail boutique, customers will find all-natural organic food selections, plus treats and toys for their pets.”
