The Watermark Offers Brain & Body Fitness Courses For Greater Southbury Seniors

The Watermark at East Hill is pleased to announce the kickoff of its Fall 2013 Watermark University semester, with course catalogs now available to seniors in the Greater Southbury area. Watermark University is a continuing education program designed with topics and programs to keep seniors’ minds and bodies fit. All of the courses are held at The Watermark, located at 611 East Hill Road in Southbury.

 

A kickoff reception will be held on Tuesday, September 10, from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the retirement community. Guests will have the opportunity to pick up course catalogs, and meet with instructors. Light refreshments will be served.

“Watermark University has something for everyone, from fitness courses to classes on wine, music and art,” said Michelle Bettigole, Executive Director of The Watermark at East Hill. “We hope our residents and guests will take advantage of the more than 50 classes offered over the next few months.”

Watermark University features a variety of courses, including “A Break to Educate” with instructor Alyson R. Marcucio. The class is a series of three Q&A sessions designed to educate people and their families about life planning. Topics include powers of attorney, living wills, estate and Medicare planning, and how to avoid probate. Sessions will be held on September 12, October 17 and November 21 at 11:30 a.m. Marcucio is an associate at the law firm of Ackerly Brown LLP, with a concentration on estate planning and elder law.

 

Another Watermark University course is called “Connecticut Inventions.” This class will explore the famous and not-so-famous inventions and inventors that have called our state home over the past 200 years. The class will be held on Monday, November 4 at 10:00 a.m. and will be led by Patrick Smith, Curator of Education at the Museum of Connecticut History.

 

Christy Fuller, an associate at The Watermark at East Hill, has organized a “Wii and Wine” class on Saturday, October 12 and Saturday, December 7 at 4:00 p.m. The course offers participants the chance to socialize over glasses of wine, and compete in a few rounds of Wii bowling. Fuller is the Director of Plant Operations at The Watermark at East Hill, and enjoys maintaining an active, outdoor lifestyle.
