Black Bear Spotted Visiting Southbury Backyards

Southbury resident Kristin Aconfora spotted this Black Bear in the backyard of her South Georges Hill Road residence on Tuesday, May 28.  

Neighboring residents said the bear has also been spotted on nearby Lakeside Road this week.  

Several residents have reported black bear sightings in Southbury and the town has recently confirmed multiple sightings earlier this month.

With resident’s safety in mind, the town has released a list of do’s and don’ts about Black Bears encouraging all residents to clean their outdoor grills after use, discontinue bird feeders during summer months and keep all garbage cans and pet food inside at night.
