Remembering Charlie Campoverde and Aryana Youngquist

Friends of the Southbury residents gather at the gazebo for a candlelight vigil.

Candles were lit, tears were shed and stories shared as friends and family gathered at the Southbury Gazebo for a vigil Saturday night.

The vigil was in honor of Charlie Campoverde and Aryana Youngquist. The two Southbury residents were killed Saturday morning in a car crash on Interstate 84 in Southington.

One of their friends, Andrew Bleidner, was on his way home from military school in Vermont when he drove by the accident. He learned later that his friends, Campoverde, 20, and Youngquist, 17, were in the car that had apparently smashed into a tractor trailer.

With the help of others in town, Andrew put together the vigil, his mother, Claudette, told Patch.

"Family and friends gathered to pray, cry, tell stories about two young lives tragically taken," she wrote.
