American Idol, Winter Wipeout, Fairly Legal

Tonight's TV Tips

American Idol, 8 p.m., Fox

You know how everyone is so excited when the judges yell, “You’re going to Hollywood!” or “Welcome to Hollywood, baby!” Yeah, well, once they get there it’s not so great. This is my favorite time of year on Idol, when the pressure mounts and mounts and the exhaustion sets in and the whole thing turns into a giant Lord of the Flies thing, except with a beat. Group sing anyone?

Winter Wipeout, 8 p.m., ABC

My 10-year-old and I have begun trying to dissect the logistics of this show. I know, we are likely watching it too much (but how much is too much?). Still, we are convinced that each episode takes more than one day to film, despite what Jon and John say. Plus, is the water really frigid? They are filming this in southern California. Is Jill actually sweating to death in that parka? These are the questions with which we wrestle.

Two episodes in and I am not convinced but I love Sarah Shahi so much and am so happy to see her back on TV that I am sticking with it. Even though her shoes are completely ridiculous for someone who is racing around San Francisco as much as she does.
