35th Annual Strawberry Festival

Come join in the fun at the 35th Annual Strawberry Festival on June 19th from 11:00am - 2:00pm at the United Church of Christ. There will be so much fun and so much to do, so stop by with your friends and family!

Many of us have special memories of the beautiful summer days spent enjoying the best strawberry shortcake this side of the Pomperaug River, participating  in or being entertained by the children's activities, fire engine or ambulance tours or just sitting under the trees letting lunch and desert digest, while listening to the very talented musicians who have entertained us on the Meeting House green. Who can forget watching our Senior Pastor splashing into the icy water of the Dunk Tank after a well aimed throw by a intent and focused teenager (or perhaps a slightly more mature congregant not so happy with a recent sermon). Or how about Pastor Pitman trading in his robes for a spell as Mr. Strawberry in that very becoming costume.

Lots of folks enjoy the camaraderie of the cooking tent or the kitchen where all the delicacies are created.  Washing, hulling and slicing the strawberries the day before the fair is also a very special time of fellowship. Remember when we used to get to spend a sweltering day bending over in the fields of the Berry Patch while picking the strawberries? Even those who can’t make it to the festival for one reason or another get to participate by preparing delicious treats for the Bake Sale.  Along with all the fun there is plenty of work that goes into the planning, setup, serving and cleanup to make the festival a success. Support from the Scouts, Youth Groups and volunteers who sign-up for the many tasks are appreciated by all who attend.
