Paddlers' Lunch

Paddlers Lunch at Kettletown State Park

If you love to canoe or kayak, you may want to experience all or part of the Housatonic River Adventure 2011, a Source to Sound paddle trip, to celebrate the beauty and wonder of the Housatonic River.  This Adventure, which runs from May 3 to 12, is coordinated by the Housatonic Valley Association (HVA) in partnership with Housatonic Heritage and local groups who will provide educational, historical and cultural programs along the way. Bring your family, friends and co-workers to enjoy riverside events as the paddlers break on land or to paddle for a couple of hours or even join the entire 10‑day journey led by three expert canoe guides.

On Wednesday May 11 (Day 9 of the Adventure), PRWC, Pootatuck Watershed Association, and Candlewood Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited will host lunch for a crew of weary paddlers who will be traveling down every navigable stretch of the 149-mile Housatonic.

Over lunch, from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at Kettletown State Park in Southbury, the hosting organizations will highlight their work to protect and restore water resources in the smaller watersheds that drain into the Housatonic River and ultimately into Long Island Sound.  Everyone is invited to join us for lunch, which we will provide.  We ask that you please sign up so we can plan accordingly.  Email events@pomperaug.org or call 203-267-1700 to register for the lunch.

Folks are also invited to join the Adventurers as they glide across Lake Zoar after putting in below the Shepaug Dam on this day.  Paddlers wishing to join the trip on this day must pre-register at conn@hvatoday.org.  You will provide your own kayak or canoe, transportation, and safety equipment including PFD’s and whistles. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
