Statistics Show No Changes in Southbury Labor Situation

Unemployment remained at a steady 7.3 percent.

Southbury's unemployment rates remained static for November, despite a surge of 2,500 jobs across the state according to recently released Department of Labor statistics.

Southbury's unemployment rate remains a solid 7.3 percent as it did in October.

The figure itself is the lowest the town has seen since April.  Practical changes to the town's statistics came in the form of small drops in the town's labor force, employed workers and unemployed workers.

The Department of Labor commented on the past two positive months of statistics in a press release.

"While two consecutive months of private sector job growth is encouraging, there are still a number of industry sectors that continue the struggle to regain those jobs lost during this last recession," said Labor Statistics Supervisor Salvatore DiPillo. "Although initial unemployment claims are down over the year, and there are other positive economic indicators, it is important to keep in mind that the job numbers reported each month are survey-based and preliminary in nature."

Projections for December will be available in January.
