Here at the empty and closed SOUTHBURY GARDENS LLC, ( FORMALLY WISTERIA HILL FARM ) 1983 purchase brook road, southbury ct, we are having MONSTER TAG SALE, COMMUNITY EVENT event for families who have lost thier homes, about to lose thier homes, have chronic or terminal illnesses. These families HAVE to sell thier belongings in order to go forward. FREE COFFEE, TEA, HOT CIDER, HOT CHOCHALATE AND BAKED SNACKS ALL DAY LONG. TOTALLY ENCLOSED, RAIN OR SHINE. Something for everyone from serious heirloom antiques to reg tag sale items. This idea started when a dear friend who's home was in forclosure, the bank suddenly sold it and they had 4 days to move with no where to go. I told them to bring everything and store it in my empty 50 by 100 foot greenhouse. With yself fighting 2 rare cancers, and my mate of 14 yrs moving out 3 weeks ago, decided to create a community place for people in need to sell thier belongings. Word spread fast and 5 more families in desperate need joined us. We pooled what little finances together and advertized in 7 newspapers, and online. We had the sale the last 2 wknds. By law, one can have 2 estate sales, and 2 tag sales per yr. So now we are having the MONSTER tag sale with new families joining us. I did not charge anything for the space, just asked to kick in a few dollars for the advertizing this wknd and next wknd. New items daily as these families find more and more stuffed away in thier barns, attics and thier relatives donating to them more items to sell. We have been successful! The 1st family now has enough to put 1st mnth, last mnth and security down on a place to lve for the winter! I plan on going further by : asking the town to supply material for a booth on how to access local services like the food bank, energy assistance, social service like counseling, and in home free energy inspections. I also have a program on FACE BOOK called ( WARM THE PEOPLE ). i RESTORE AND DONATE UP TO 3 WOOD STOVES PER MONTH, PLUS SOME WOOD TO FAMILIES WHO ARE COLD, AND DONT MEET CRITERIA FOR MANY SERVICES. For next wknd I am going to approach a relative and see if he will donate hay rides and I have another friend who may donate an enclosed steel arm pony rides. Please just come and have free hot bev's, snacks, and sit by our old Ben franklin wood stove or outside enclosed fire pit,and enjoy the slendor of the unspoiled Purchase area.
