Pomperaug Student Sues School, Towns for Teacher's Misconduct

The student's complaint says the school and towns did not do enough to protect her from the teacher.

A teenager is suing , the Region 15 school district, and the towns of and Middlebury for failing to protect her from sex abuse by a former teacher at the high school.

An article by the Waterbury Republican-American said the teenager is identified in the lawsuit as "Jane Doe." She exchanged sexually provocative emails and text messages with former teacher Christopher Bantz, who was convicted last year of fourth degree sexual assault.

Couldn't you see this lawsuit coming? What happened to the young lady was shameful but how is the school at fault when she provided the email and text information to the teacher? Key word here is "exchanged".

Amen... as a male, I did not want to be the one to broach that integral piece of information lest I be torn apart by a bunch of angered responders. Although this teacher was unquestionably in the wrong to have been a party to the "exchange", I'd be curious which party initiated it in the first place.

Oh great. Let's blame the victim. She started it, he started it, they exchanged, WHATEVER. None of that matters. What is important here is that he is a teacher, she is a student and he acted inappropriately, regardless of her behavior. Remember, he was convicted of sexual assault. What we will find out through the lawsuit (if they do not settle first) is if region 15 and the towns have any responsibility for their employees actions.

He has a past a very questionable one ...it's unfortunate that our students where not protected. And for the record HE is totally at fault he is a despicable human..father husband and teacher.he should have been let go a long time ago after the first incident

@ Penny... I do not no this teachers history, but if it is true that he had a "questionable" past.. then I ask.. did his tenure protect him from scrutiny?
