Southbury Opens Multiple Cooling Centers

Shelter from the current heat wave will be provided at the Senior Center and Public Library.

The Town of Southbury has opened two cooling centers to help residents deal with the current heat wave sweeping across the region.

The Southbury Senior Center, located at 561 Main St. South, will remain open as a cooling center on Wednesday, June 20 and Thursday, June 21 until 8 p.m. for any resident in need of a shelter away from the heat.

The Kingsley Room at the Southbury Public Library, 100 Poverty Rd., will also be available Wednesday, June 20 from 5:30 – 8 p.m. as an additional cooling center.

There will be water and bathrooms provided at both facilities.

Also, the Town Pool, at Ballantine Park, will be opened at 1 p.m. Wednesday and 12 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Day and season passes can be purchased at the pool or at the Parks and Recreation Department.
