What's Your Vision for This Vacant Store on Main Street in Southbury?

It's an open space right on Main Street in Southbury. What would you like to see go there?

It's right along Main Street, and it's been empty for a long time, what should go there?

A space in the building also occupied by D Yo Frozen Yogurt, Southbury School of Performing Arts, Kneading Hands Yoga & Massage, and Superior Cleaners has a medium size open space designated for reatil purposes.

In a slightly larger space in the building adjacent to this vacancy Patch users said they’d like to see a bookstore, Trader Joe’s or a restaurant. This space is more than likely too small to accommodate a grocery store or restaurant, but still has plenty of potential.

Obviously, factors such as local zoning laws will have a say in what goes in the property next, but let's suspend reality for a while. What would you like to see there? Share your ideas in the comments!

While I too would love a Trader Joe's in Southbury, it would certainly need its own lot. A fabulous coffee shop or resaurant is tempting, but what we really need is a book store.

Children's art studio would be great!

I'd like to see a coffee shop as well. Something with a little bookstore/coffee shop deal... open late though, somewhere someone can go to study if need be or hang out and read a book

Didn't we do a similar survey in the same plaza a few weeks ago? Sticking with the "theme" how about a athletic goods retailer for the space? Running/Jogging gear ... Golfing equipment/attire to support the 2 courses in town... yoga gear & clothing... aroma/homeopathy/naturopathy therapy kiosks? ... GO/Town-Team Spirit store supporting the athletic depts of Reg. 15 schools?

A small sporting goods store for sure that carries essentials. With all the athletic teams here in town, one needs to drive all the way to Danbury or Waterbury if they need a simple mouth guard or shin guards. Kmart stopped selling sporting goods

i think we need just ONE MORE bank, one that might actually lend money, and maybe even do a refinance to a couple of locals.

Terry James Art in Oxford on Route 67/Academy Road offers art lessons. She is a terrific instructor! Located near the United Church of Christ and Oxford Center School

I would like a really good wild caught seafood and organic meat store. There is a great seafood store on West Main Street in Waterbury, but it is a hike.

There is a butcher shop that just opened on Rte 25 in Newtown. Its called Butchers Best and they sell antibiotic/hormone free meat, they also carry seafood, produce and have a deli.

How about anything that is open pad mid afternoon on both Saturday and Sunday? Honestly, I really want to make more purchases locally, but the lazy, small town hours just never work for me, so I end up going to Waterbury/Danbury.
