New Season of the Church Year

Sunday, March 2, will be the last Sunday in Epiphany.  This has been a season for us to reflect on the manifestation of Jesus in the world.  How we celebrate during our services, and how we show the love  outside our congregation as well.

Wednesday, March 5, will be Ash Wednesday and our congregation will have services at Noon and 7 pm.  Ashes will be offered to those who wish them (it is not a requirement).  When we receive the ashes our priest will make the sign of the cross on our forehead and recite the age old words "Remember you are dust and to dust you shall return."

At one time the Church used this period before the celebration of Easter to prepare persons for Baptism, reconciliation, and to remind us all of Jesus' love for us and his sacrifice for our sins with his death on the Cross on Good Friday.  During this season of Lent we will try to examine our own lives, and try to start a new life with Jesus as our center.

The ashes used for this service are often made from the burn palms from the previous Palm Sunday when Jesus had his triumphant procession into Jerusalem.  We will change our Sunday services to a more somber atmosphere, no alleluias will be said, music will be more reflective, and the penitential prayers will be offered.

Our Lenten journey will be a study of "He Chose the Nails" which will be a discussion group between our two Sunday Services  The first one will be led by Father Price on Sunday, March 9, at 8:50 am to 9:50 am.  The theme for this first week will be "You did this for me?"

We would love to have you join us.
