Give Local to Special Olympics Southbury, May 6 & 7

Online donations to support nine

Special Olympics Connecticut local programs including Bristol, Cheshire, LARC,
Oxford, Naugatuck, New Milford, Southbury,
Waterbury and Watertown Special Citizens will be accepted May 6th and

7th through the GIVE LOCAL Greater Waterbury & Litchfield Hills

campaign. Special Olympics Connecticut accredited local programs serve athletes
of all abilities in their communities, year-round, and are organized and run by
local volunteers. Special Olympics local programs enrich the lives of hometown
athletes by providing athletic training and competition opportunities and inspiring
inclusion and respect for all people through sport. To find out more about the

The GIVE LOCAL Greater
Waterbury & Litchfield Hills campaign is a 24-hour online giving event
organized by the Connecticut Community Foundation as part of a nationwide
giving event, Give Local America.


From noon on Tuesday, May 6th
through noon on Wednesday, May 7th, accredited Special Olympics
programs in eligible towns will receive 94% of every donation made through the
campaign. These programs will also receive a percentage of national and local
matching funds.

This year’s campaign will
celebrate the 90th anniversary of the GIVE LOCAL campaign and
benefit nonprofits in 21 towns in Greater Waterbury and Litchfield Hills.

These nine Local Programs provide
sports training and competition opportunities to 1,240 athletes with
intellectual disabilities and their Unified Sports® partners, including 131 athletes who participate
in eight sports with the Special Olympics Southbury Training School program.
