SOUTHBURY TRAINING SCHOOL FARMLAND HIKE

On a hot afternoon this past July
Connecticut Governor Dannell Malloy visited the Southbury Training School
campus to sign a historic bill pledging to preserve more than 800 acres for
permanent agricultural use.

Now that the temperature has
moderated, the Southbury Land Trust would like to show the public what all the
excitement was about and invites them to a Fall hike on the Southbury Training
School farmland on Sunday, October 27th.

Ed Platt will guide the hikers
through the scenic rural landscape of the pastoral meadows and spectacular
views of the upper portions of the school property.  Mr. Platt, who is the
owner of the last dairy farm in Southbury, has leased fields on STS for many
years and is uniquely knowledgeable about the agriculture on this land.

The hike will be of moderate
intensity and the terrain is fairly rugged.

Participants should meet at the
Southbury Town Hall lower parking lot at 1:30. After a brief orientation,
hikers will carpool to the school.
