In Memoriam: Frank 'Cappy' DeBlasio, WWII Veteran

Mr. Frank “Cappy” DeBlasio, 96, of Waterbury, died Thursday, October 31, 2013 at Waterbury Hospital. He was the widower of Mary ( Yaconi) DeBlasio.

Cappy was born in Waterbury on January 8, 1917, son of the late Domenic and Philomena DeBlasio. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, having served with the U.S. 2 nd Armored Division, the “Hell on Wheels” Division, where he earned both the Silver and Bronze Stars. He was employed by the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, serving as sales manager for several years, until he retired.

He was an active communicant of Our Lady of Mt .Carmel Church, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society and Forever Young Society. He was a co-founder of the Mt. Carmel Grammar School Sports Program and was their longtime baseball and basketball coach. He was an original member and award recipient of the Olympian Club of Waterbury, an original member of the American Italian Civic Club, where he was twice honored as ‘the Man of the Year”. He was also the recipient of the Archdiocesan Medal of Appreciation St. Joseph Award and he was a longtime Easter Seals Volunteer.

He leaves a son, Fran DeBlasio and his wife Gail of Southbury, a daughter in law, Eleanor DeBlasio of Walpole, MA, five grandchildren, John DeBlasio, Daniel DeBlasio, Mary DeBlasio, Frank DeBlasio, Katie DeBlasio and several nieces and nephews. He was predeased by his son, Allan DeBlasio.

The family would like to thank Bridget Dinklocker, his favorite nurse and the staff at Dr. Bowen’s office for their care and compassion shown to Cappy during his illness.

Arrangements: Funeral will be held Monday at 8:30 a.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church for a Mass at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, with full military honors. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
