Obituary: Norma Banyard Aiken, 90

Middletown - Norma Banyard Aiken, 90, beloved wife of the late Francis R. Aiken, peacefully passed away on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014.

Norma was born on May 15, 1923 in Norwalk, daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Mary Banyard. Formerly of Middlebury and Southbury (Heritage Village), she was a devout communicant of Sacred Heart Church.

Norma will be remembered most for being a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She especially enjoyed gardening, knitting, and watching the hummingbirds in summer, and always enjoyed time spent with her family.

She leaves her twin daughters, Joanne Aiken of Meriden and Leslie Aiken of Killingworth; her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Cassella Aiken of Milford; two granddaughters, Christy Lee Aiken of Seymour and Jennifer Aiken of Milford; and her cherished and beloved great-granddaughter, Dakota Elizabeth Aiken. Besides her husband and parents, she is also pre-deceased by her beloved son, Michael F. Aiken.

Norma's daughters would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff of Waters Edge Center for Health & Rehab in Middletown, CT for their compassionate care and support of Norma throughout her 2 1/2 year residency.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Jan. 20, 2014, at Sacred Heart Church, Southbury, followed by burial in Pine Hill Cemetery. Arrangements by Carpino Funeral Home, Southbury.
