Obituary: Raymond S. Burns, 85

Raymond S. Burns, 85, of Heritage Village, died Tuesday, January 21 at the Lutheran Home in Southbury. He was the husband of Joan (Holsky) Burns.

Mr. Burns was born Sept. 5, 1928, in Yonkers, NY, son of the late John and Anna Rose (Kane) Burns. He served in the US Army and was a graduate of St. Bonaventure University with a Bachelors Degree in English, a graduate of Columbia University with a Masters Degree in English and received his Doctorate Degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania. He taught at Villanova University and retired as chairman of the English Dept. at Pace University. He and his wife moved to Southbury in 1988.

Besides his wife of 56 years, he leaves his son, Raymond V. Burns, and his wife, Kathy, of Cody, Wyoming and his daughter, Marie Burns, of Southbury; three grandsons, James Paul and William Cirolia, all of Southbury; and his brother, Monsignor John A. Burns of Brooklyn, NY. He is pre-deceased by his brothers, William, Gerard and Robert Burns.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, Jan. 27 in Sacred Heart Church, 910 Main St. South, Southbury. Burial followed in Holy Cross Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY.  Arrangements by Carpino Funeral Home, Southbury.
