Arlene Rahoczy, 74, died on Jan. 10, 2014, after a brief illness at
Danbury Hospital with both of her daughters by her side. She was the
wife of Endre Rahoczy.
Arlene was born on August 24, 1939 in Danbury,
Connecticut, the daughter of Adam and Mary (Eighme) Gereg. She was a
longtime resident of Great Barrington, MA, and Ocala, FL, recently
moving to The Watermark at East Hill in Southbury, CT, to be closer to
family, this past August.
Arlene was a longtime personal care attendant prior to her retirement
and was also the proprietor of the former Acorn Acres Motel in Great
Barrington, MA, which her family ran for ten years. She was a graduate
of Danbury High School and received her Nursing Assistant certification
from Berkshire Community College. Arlene enjoyed volunteering with
various local organizations including Saint Peter’s Church, Tuesday
Morning Club and Great Barrington Kennel Club. Arlene was also involved
with raising and showing Doberman Pinchers. She took great pleasure in
gardening and travelling, but her greatest joy was spending time with
her family, especially with her two granddaughters. She was a long time
communicant of Saint Peter’s Church in Great Barrington.
her spouse of 53 years, she leaves her two daughters, Michelle
Bettigole and her husband, Edward, of Southbury, CT; Andrea Gladu and
her husband Sylvain, of North Reading, MA; her granddaughters, Jade
Bettigole and Chloe Gladu; her sisters, Sandra Gereg of Brookfield, CT
and Elizabeth Metz of Ocala, Florida; and her niece, Vallie Metz of
Winter Park, FL.
A Mass in celebration of her life will be held at a future date.

friends at The Watermark, Daphne and Pepe, were adopted.
