Obituary: Barbara Yodice Whitehouse, 85, of Southbury

Barbara Yodice Whitehouse, 85, of Heritage Village, Southbury, CT, passed away Monday, August 20, 2012 at Danbury Hospital. She was born July 7, 1927 in Brooklyn N.Y, daughter of Vito and Theresa Yodice. She died peacefully surrounded by family.

A loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she is survived by her devoted husband Arthur Whitehouse and four children, Barbara Wynne, of Red Lodge, Montana; Michael Whitehouse and his wife Kim Hanna, of Redding, CT; Maureen Whitehouse and Fritz Mueller of Cambridge MA; and Patricia Whitehouse and her husband John Zabarsky of Southbury, CT; nine grandchildren, Douglas and Danny Wynne; Lucy Whitehouse; Merete and Maeve Mueller; Hannah, Nathan, Carrie and Bobby Zabarsky; and three great grandchildren, River; Kyra and Paige Wynne.

She was recognized by the International Swimming Hall of Fame, of which she was a member, for her New York Metropolitan swimming titles and her role with the Women’s Swimming Association in the 1940s, a club which produced a number of championship teams and individual swimming champions. She was a member of the Heritage Village and Sacred Heart Church communities, in Southbury, CT.

Friends and family will be received in the daily chapel of Sacred Heart Church, 910 South Main Street, Southbury, CT on Friday, August 24 from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Church on Saturday, August 25 at 10:00 a.m. and burial will take place in Pine Hill Cemetery, Southbury, CT immediately following Mass. Arrangements by Carpino Funeral Home, Southbury.
