Obituary: Eleanor May (Simuleavich) Almeida

A Memorial Mass will take place at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Southbury.

Eleanor May Almeida died Monday, October 31, 2011 at Danbury Hospital at the age of 77.

She was born the daughter of the late Cyril Scheibel and Athela Simaleavich on January 15, 1934 in Bridgeport.

Almeida was raised and cared for in Danbury by Joseph and Athena Simaleavich. For 11 years, while married to the late Dr. Nelphilo Almeida, she lived in Brazil where she appreciated  the Brazilian people, their culture and learned to speak Portuguese.

She enjoyed traveling with her daughter and son in-law and spending time with her family, especially being a part of her grandsons' lives. Sewing was a favorite pastime for her.

Almeida is survived by her daughter Eleanor Tremblay and her husband Mark of Middlebury, where she had lived for the last 12 years; two sons: Nelson Almeida of Danbury and Cesar Almeida and his wife Marcy of Oceanside, Calif.; two grandchildren: Jeffrey Almeida and Oliver Tremblay; and one great grandson Elijah Almeida, and two dear friends: Nancy Dunne, and Beverly Hassell.

A memorial mass will take place at 11 a.m. Monday November 7, at Sacred Heart Church, 910 Main St. South. The main entrance to the parking lot is on South Britain Road, also known as Route 172.

Cremation services were held in private. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Green Funeral Home in Danbury.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oxford Special Olympics C/O Moeblees, 13 Lisbon Terrace, Oxford 06478.
