Obituary for Jay E. Harper, 47, Father of Three

Harper was a recreational basketball volunteer who moved to Southbury in 2006.

Jay E. Harper, 47, of Southbury, died unexpectedly on Wed. Oct. 17 in Florida. He was the husband of Karen (Mercier) Harper.

Jay was born March 25, 1965, in Ware, MA, son of Dianne Harper of Lowell, MA and the late Allan Harper. He graduated from WPI with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. He was currently an executive vice president for Coverall, a health based cleaning company.

He and his wife moved to Southbury in 2006 where he enjoyed attending his children’s sporting events, and gave much care to his town. He was able to teach a large amount of the younger population, while coaching his children in many sports. He was a board member of recreational basketball and loved being there for the town.

Besides his devoted wife of 25 years, and his mother, he leaves his three loving children, Megan, Nickolas and Jared, all of Southbury; his brother, Christian Harper, his sister, Lori Furtado, and several nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, Oct. 23rd at 3:00 p.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 910 Main Street South, Southbury. There are no calling hours and burial will be private. Arrangements by Carpino Funeral Home, Southbury. Please visit www.carpinofuneralhome.com for on line condolences.
