Obituary: John Ennis McQuail, 84, of Southbury

Ennis McQuail was a Heritage Village resident and Merchant Marine.

John Ennis McQuail, 84, of Heritage Village died peacefully at Danbury Hospital on July 10. He would have celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary with his beloved late wife Mary Ellen (Keogh) McQuail on July 12.

Ennis McQuail was born August 19, 1927 in New York, New York, son of the late John E. and Katherine (Murray) McQuail. He served in the Merchant Marines and achieved the rank of Second Lieutenant. He graduated from Holy Cross College in 1952, and Fordham Law School in 1955. For most of his career, he was in private practice in Newtown, CT. He will be remembered by all for his quick wit, gentle spirit, and as a loving father and devoted husband.

He is survived by his six children; Matthew and his wife Patty, and their two daughters Mallory and Keilly, his son John Ennis, Jr. and his wife Karen and daughter Katherine, Megan Vaughan and her husband Cola and daughters Eliza, and Mary Ellen, Christopher and his wife Michele and daughters Erin, Maia and son Grenville, Joanna Lambert and her husband David and daughter Hallie, and Mary Atkinson and her daughters Abby, Emma, Maggie, Ellen. He is also survived by two great grandchildren, Lucas and Harrison and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, 910 Main St. South, Southbury on Monday July 16 at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
