Community Corner

Edelson Endorsed by the Danbury News Times!

Ed has been endorsed by the Danbury News Times. Congratulations Ed.

 Their editorial board stated:

"Strong leadership by Edelson will keep Southbury on right path: Southbury has come through a time of rapid growth in population and resulting retail and commercial services and enhancements to the community's character.

The gazebo on the Southbury Green, now a gather place for summer concerts, and the 4-mile loop of landscaped sidewalks along Main Street South, have given the sense of a town center. The growth and the planning were in the works for many years. What Southbury needed - and has had for the past two years - was a first selectman who could bring the everyday operation of government to the next level.

In his first two-year term of office, Democratic First Selectman Ed Edelson has done that. He created efficiencies in the operation of Town Hall, for example, by merging the Tax Collector's and the Tax Assessor's offices, and reduced the town' operating budget, mainly through collaboration with the Region 15 school district on a self-funded insurance plan.

Edelson has his critics in town, and he acknowledges he tried to move too fast on some changes, but overall we believe he has led the town in the right direction. his influence with Gov. Dannel P. Malloy was helpful in state Rep. Arthur O'Neill getting the General Assembly to finally agree to preserve farmland at the Southbury Training School.

Republican challenger John Monteleone, who has many years of community service, said he would have a more bottom-up approach to running the town and he touts "fiscal responsibility."

Southbury has been run responsibly, fiscally and otherwise, in the past two years under the leadership of First Selectman Ed Edelson.

We strongly endorse Edelson for another term in office to keep Southbury on the right path."
