Southbury's Roads a Disgrace last storm ...

We have resided on Peter Road for over 26 years. Never have we seen Southbury roads in as deplorable condition as occurred this past storm.

Before the storm my husband went into the town site for some salt/sand mixture for our driveway and was directed to the new bins. However, he noted there was almost no salt in the large bin in the yard.

Perhaps Mr. Edelson is so gullible to believe Crowe’s assertion  the bin was intentionally emptied the day prior to a storm, but the citizens who travel these roads and never experienced conditions this bad are not.

The new salting method is being used which requires a pre-snow application and several follow up applications or it does not work and the melting snow freezes over.  This new method is supposed to do its job at temps of -5 degrees. Obviously, the outside temp during the storm was not in this range but 18 degrees as Crowe asserts. We have had storms with snowfall in the double digits with the roads in far better condition over many years than the 4 inches that fell last week.

The snow plow came by late morning only and never reappeared until after 10PM. At 5PM, my son had to park in front of Ms. Pereira’s home, as the roads had not been touched by a plow all day. My neighbor, a contractor with 4 wheel drive was on several town roads and said the roads were all bad, Our plowing contractor who travels several roads said he never experienced roads this bad.

The day after the storm, we  left home at 8:45am. This road was completely iced over. When we returned home at 9:45am, we observed the old sand/salt mixture was melting Bullet Hill Road                           and observed the town trucks dropping the old salt sand mixture on Peter Road which immediately melted the snow.
