Winter Keeps Snowing in Southbury

The topic would like to address in this piece is complaints about the salt situation in the town of Southbury.  Now, this winter has been hard on many respects in the number of storm cause snow fall. This winter has not produced just one or two large storms, but rather many smaller storms. This has due with weather pattern step-up on global scale which has causes many smaller storms to hit Connecticut. This set-up of the weather pattern is talk about trade circle of Meteorologist, but not necessarily discussion about on the evening news for lay people take in understand and process. The lack information cannot be reason to blame some for not take action because an average person would not understand the weather pattern set up. Therefore in normal winter season to know in December that salt was low and need be deal with in future early to late January would seem reasonable then have town meeting about the transfer of funds. However another factor has played in how the town has conduct business. The factor is how long taking the Board of Selectmen to process a topic. A good example of this time factor is question about the charter seem come up all the time, which slow the meeting down. I am not saying the question not valid, but ask them in this forum cause delay because appropriate people not there to answer the question.

Now, there has been much discussion on going back to Sand and Salt combination. There are good reason why sand is been phase out over the years. The first example and largest example in state of Connecticut is the State switch over salt only. The State made switch over 8 years ago. This method of treating the road work well. I find the state roads much better than town road when they treaded with sand and salt. The major reason is the clean up cost involve with sand. Sand does not break down in the environment, but rather become part the environment. This bad for the environment because under mass wasting law of geology the sand will seek the lowest point in area that happen to be river and pond which fill up sand and need to be clean in some sort fashion every few years.

Therefore all this comes down to be town just needs more salt and Weather to break at this point in time.
