Police: Man Assaulted Woman on Side of I-84

A Watertown man is facing several charges after allegedly assaulting a woman on the side of the highway in Southbury.

Bradley Mitchell, 34, was charged with third-degree assault, threatening, reckless endangerment, fourth-degree criminal mischief and breach of peace on July 3 at approximately 7:45 p.m.

According to police, a caller advised Troop ‘A’ that a male was assaulting a female on Interstate 84 east between exit 15 and 16. Troopers responded and found Mitchell walking on the side of the highway close to the scene, the woman had driven away in her vehicle.

After she was located, the female described how Mitchell grabbed the wheel of the vehicle and threatened and assaulted her several times after she pulled the car to the right shoulder. The woman sustained minor injuries. Mitchell also damaged the vehicle, according to police.

Mitchell was held on $15,000 surety bond and was scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on July 5.
