Vehicle Eludes Police After High Speed Pursuit

State police engaged in a traffic pursuit through Southbury on Saturday, August 25.

According to police, state troopers pursued a black 2007 Jeep Liberty, which was reported stolen in Wilton, on I-84 eastbound between exits 15-17 early Saturday morning. The pursuit lasted approximately 7.9 miles before bring terminated by Troop ‘A’ duty supervisor for public safety concerns, due to the high speed and erratic operation of the stolen vehicle.

Police currently have no leads on this incident and are asking anyone who may have information to contact Troop ‘A’ at (203) 267-2200.

Wrong Way Driver Hit With DUI

Jeffrey Humphrey, 41, of Naugatuck, was charged with DUI, speeding and driving the wrong way on Saturday, August 25 at approximately 3:55 a.m.

According to police, Humphrey was observed traveling southbound in the northbound lane of Route 67 under the I-84 overpass. Humphrey attempted to elude police by turning left onto the exit 15 eastbound on ramp and was observed weaving and speeding at 90+ mph before being stopped.

Humphrey was released on $1,500 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on September 5.
