Block Party

On Saturday, June 16, 2012 the Southbury Volunteer Firemen’s Association will celebrate their 80th anniversary with a community BLOCK PARTY!  Mark your calendar and join us at Center Firehouse at 461 Main Street South; the festivities begin at 3 pm rain or shine.  There is no admission charge and free parking is available at the Town Hall lots.  Bring a chair or a blanket and settle in for many hours of fun for all ages!

All ages will have an opportunity to explore a fire truck up close and speak with SVFA members who will provide fire prevention information and answer any questions that you might have about our 100% volunteer organization.

Classic cars will be on display in the parking area directly behind the firehouse.   A Boppers DJ will provide musical entertainment beginning at 3 pm and will organize limbo and hula hoop contests.  Several backyard type games will be available to provide self-entertainment for all ages.  Also, a dunk tank will provide an opportunity to dunk one of Southbury’s own firefighters or fire officers.  A Tug-of-War Tournament has been scheduled at 5pm. Connecticut Fire Departments have been invited, along with their Junior Corps to test their strength on the Town Hall Green.  The winning teams will receive a trophy and bragging rights.

Special 80th Anniversary T-shirts will be available in sizes small thru XXL, with a portion of the proceeds going to aid in building a family suite within the Bridgeport Hospital Burn Center. This family suite will afford a family the opportunity to stay close to their loved one being treated within the Burn Center.  Each fire department in Connecticut has been asked to raise a minimum of $500 toward this effort.

Throughout the afternoon and evening the grill area will be offering hot dogs, hamburgers, soda and water.  Cotton candy, popcorn and snow cones will be available also.

To complete the festivities, at 7pm the local band Social Convention will be playing live music for our listening and dancing pleasure
