Rob Kane Retains Seat in 32nd District

[UPDATE - 11:20 P.M.] Republican Senator Rob Kane, who has been serving the 32nd District since 2008, will be reelected to the State Senate.

Kane is currently beating Democratic challenger James Gambardella 64 percent to 34 percent, or 18,826 votes to 10,659 votes, with 70 percent of the vote accounted for, according to unoffical numbers from WTNH.

“I’m very thankful to the voters of our district for their faith in me,” Kane told Patch Tuesday night. “It shows the people of the 32nd believe in the same things I do, and that’s to keep taxes low, a smaller government and to lower spending.”

Kane is the Ranking Republican Member of the Legislature's Appropriations Committee and is the Deputy Minority Leader. His district covers Bethlehem, Bridgewater, Middlebury, Oxford, Roxbury, Seymour, Southbury, Thomaston, Watertown and Woodbury.

Republican Rob Kane, the Senate Deputy Minority Leader, is seeking to regain his senate seat against Democratic challenger James Gambardella.

The two men square off Tuesday in a race that includes Bethlehem, Bridgewater, Middlebury, Oxford, Roxbury, Seymour, Southbury, Thomaston, Watertown and Woodbury.

Kane is a long-time Watertown resident who was first elected to represent the 32nd Senatorial District in a special election in January 2008.

On Kane's website, it states:

Kane's priorities include: Enacting a responsible, workable, three strikes law that would protect Connecticut’s families by imposing life imprisonment on those convicted of a third, serious, felony. Also, creating and retaining jobs by enacting pro-business and pro-worker legislation, such as expanding an existing tax credit program to benefit all Connecticut businesses.

Gambardella, also a Watertown resident, and geography lecturer at Central Connecticut State University, said he had been thinking about running for several years.

In an interview with the Valley Gazette, Gambardella described himself as:

"Exceptionally honest, and good at working with people of different walks of life. I understand businesspeople, professionals, students, and people working for low wages. I do understand their problems, and I really do care about them."
