Southbury Continues Clean Energy Initiatives

Earlier this month, Southbury was was among 35 towns in Connecticut recognized for participating in the Clean Energy Communities program, and the town's not stopping there.

According to a press release from the First Selectman's Office, "Between January, 2010 and August 2013, Southbury saved 5,142,902 Kilowatt-hours of energy and avoided emissions of 2,528 Tons of CO2, or the equivalent of taking 441 cars off the road for one year.  The Town is currently benchmarking all Municipal buildings for energy usage."

Southbury received a $10,000 Bright Ideas Grant for its efforts, and used a portion of those funds to hold an Energy Fair at the Southbury Public Library in October.

Paul Zagozewski, Chairman of Southbury’s Energy Task Force, attended the Dec. 4 Awards Ceremony at the State Capitol in Hartford to accept the award on Southbury's behalf.

According to the press release, Southbury homeowners can get involved and keep the momentum going by "participating in the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund’s residential programs." So far, 961 homes, about 12% of the community, participate in the programs.

Details are available on the EnergizeCT.com website.

Southbury First Selectman Ed Edelson thanked the "dedicated volunteers who serve on committees such as the Energy Task Force and make such a positive difference for the Town of Southbury and its residents,” and said “We all owe them a big Thank You.”
