Southbury Democrats Announce Endorsements in 2012 Races

Southbury DTC endorses Roberti for congressional district and Murphy for senate seat.

The Southbury Democratic Town Committee held a meeting earlier this week to decide which candidates to support for the open seats in the 5th U.S. Congressional District and the U.S. Senate.

The DTC announced Wednesday they have endorsed Dan Roberti for U.S. Congress and U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy (D-5) for U.S. Senate.

Newly elected Town Chairwoman, Meghan Forgione stated that she felt Murphy posses the skills to support Southbury and the region as a whole.

"Chris Murphy is the strongest candidate running for U.S. Senate, he has never let his constituents down while representing the 5th District and has proven that there is no substitute for hard work when it comes to leadership,” said Forgione. “The DTC is confident in his ability to represent and provide a powerful voice in Washington for the people of Connecticut."

Commenting on the endorsement of Roberti, DTC member Vivian Templeton pointed to Roberti’s past work in Southbury.

“Dan [Roberti] has been in Southbury from the very beginning. He was the first one to offer help and support to us during our campaign for First Selectman. He is bright and a hard worker,” Templeton said.

Roberti said he was thrilled to receive the endorsement of the Southbury Democratic Town Committee.

“The support of the DTC will help keep the focus of the race on the issues that most concern people in the 5th District: jobs and the economy, affordable health care, and upholding our promises to our seniors,” Roberti said. “I thank the committee for its endorsement.”
