Southbury Institutes 'No Cash' Policy

In an effort to minimize risk and vulnerability, the Town of Southbury will place limits on cash payments, effective January 15, 2014.

According to a press release from the Southbury First Selectman's Office, any payments  to the Parks & Recreation, Senior Center and Social Services offices that exceed $20 must be paid via check, money order, or "other means of payment other than cash."

Payments made to the Tax Collector, Town Clerk, Land Use (Building, Zoning, Inland/Wetlands) and Fire Marshal that exceed $50 must also be non-cash payments.

The Town is considering the viability of accepting credit and debit card payments in the future, but currently does not accept those methods of payment.
