Southbury Resident Recognized for Teaching Excellence

Southbury's Monica Tarnowski honored for her work in Bridgeport schools

Southbury resident Monica Tarnowski was recently recognized as an Outstanding Teacher by the Bridgeport Public Education Foundation and the Fairfield County Community Foundation.

The award recognizes Tarnowski as one of 10 individuals who have made a difference in education in Bridgeport.

The 2012 Inspiration Awards recognize teachers, administrators and community leaders who have dedicated their time and passion to helping Bridgeport students succeed, according to a release by the school district.

Tarnowski, a sixth grade reading and math specialist at Multicultural Magnet School, has been teaching in the Bridgeport schools for nine years.

She is the advisor for the National Junior Honor society and a key organizer of food and clothing drives and in visiting elderly in the neighboring housing developments, according to the school district.
