Get into shape  with TennisMadeSimple

Punxatawney Phil may have predicted six more weeks of winter, but warm weather and the start of the TennisMadeSimple program mean that spring is coming on sooner than the groundhog thought. For the past 8 years, Val Stoiana and his TennisMadeSimple program have been the unofficial heralds of spring in the town of Southbury, CT, and 2012 is already shaping up to be a great tennis season.

An 18-year Southbury resident, Stoiana started teaching tennis in New York City before moving to Southbury in 1994. In 2004 he launched the TennisMadeSimple program, and to date he has taught over 600 adults as old as 83, and over 750 children as young as 5.

“I offer lessons for everyone, from beginners who have never held a racket to returning players with some experience who could use a refresher,” says Stoiana. Lessons for his popular program begin the week of April 2nd, 2012, and space fills up fast. Some people have been taking TennisMadeSimple lessons almost as long as Stoiana has been in business.

“One woman, Maura, had not missed a single lesson in seven years until she moved to Atlanta in December” says Stoiana. Many returning clients have been with the TennisMadeSimple program for between 2 to 4 years, and spring is the most popular time for tennis lessons. From April to October, Stoiana offers tennis lessons at the courts outside of the Heritage Hotel, though he is also available for appointments on private courts.

TennisMadeSimple isn’t just a program for those wanting to learn the ropes; it is also a great workout program! “For adults, I provide the 5-week Cardio Tennis program,” says Stoiana. “Not only does this program help you learn tennis skills, but it is a great fat burner and stress reliever. We play some great workout music and there is something about smashing a tennis ball into the court that just feels so good, ”

For children, Stoiana’s U.S. Tennis Association-approved 10 and Under Tennis  program scales back the workout and instead focues on hand-eye coordination, proper stance, and the footwork conditioning on a smaller court with an emphasis on precision over speed. Both adult and children's programs run for 5 weeks. Adult programs meet twice a week, for 5 weeks ( 10 hours total), and the cost is $100 per student (new client price). Children's programs meet once a week for 5 weeks ( 5 hours total), and the cost is $80 per student.

A father of two children himself, Stoiana’s kids are now tournament-winning tennis champs, a testament to his skills as a teacher. A formerly nationally-ranked tennis player from Romania, Stoiana is able to easily translate his impressive resume of tennis skills so even children can understand them.

TennisMadeSimple lessons start on April 2nd, and renewevery 5 weeks. Val Stoiana is only one man and space is limited, so don’t hesitate to give him a call at 203-232-5337,  or email : val@tennismadesimple.com.  Alternately, you can learn more and sign up at his website, www.TennisMadeSimple.com.
