B'nai Israel Southbury Annual Picnic

Mustard?  Ketchup?  Relish?  Onions?  No matter how you like to eat them, Congregation B’nai Israel Southbury will serve up hot dogs, hamburgers and much more as it holds its Annual Community Picnic for congregation members and prospective members from the community on Sunday, August 21 from 3:00pm – Sunset at Ballantine Park & Pavilion on Old Field Road in Southbury.

The B’nai Israel Annual Picnic, which welcomes a diverse group of Jewish and interfaith families from throughout the region, will offer FREE food, fun and conversation, including family softball games, children’s crafts and more.  This year’s event will also feature live music from folk singer, Willie Nininger.  A mainstay of the Greenwich Village Folk Scene in the 70's and 80's, Willie has emceed and performed in the legendary Fast Folk Musical Revues, played clubs and concerts across the U.S. and Europe, wrote songs for the Captain Kangaroo show and kids TV specials, perennially won the Folk City Bob Dylan imitator's contests, and developed a reputation as a great folk humorist.

“The Annual Picnic is an event our entire congregation looks forward to each summer and we’re all saying a little prayer for another beautiful Southbury summer day,” said Rabbi Eric Polokoff.  “We’ll be very blessed to enjoy the afternoon eating, playing, listening to good music and catching up with congregation members, friends and neighbors who may be considering joining our very special congregation at B’nai Israel Southbury.”
