Pomperaug Youth Baseball Headed to Babe Ruth World Series

After wining the Connecticut and New England Babe Ruth State Championships the 14-year-old Pomperaug Youth Baseball team is headed to the Babe Ruth World Series.

The local squad battled teams from across New England to earn their spot in the World Series, which will be played in Utah later this summer.

Numerous fundraisers have been held to support the team’s trip to the World Series, including a generous donation by the Southbury Women’s Club. The Board of Selectmen approved a proclamation on Thursday to show the community’s pride in the achievement of the team, their coaches and their families.

Below was the proclamation approved by the board:

WHEREAS, the Pomperaug Youth Baseball 14 Year Old Team became District Champions after defeating the Ridgefield, Brookfield and New Milford (twice) teams; and

WHEREAS, the Team was declared the Babe Ruth Connecticut State Champions after defeating the Shelton, Ledyard, Simsbury, Newtown and Norwalk (twice) teams; and

WHEREAS, the Team was proclaimed the Babe Ruth New England Regional Champions after defeating the Dedham, MA, Cranston, RI, Nashua, NH and Central Maine teams; and

WHEREAS, the Team had a tournament record of 14 -1; and

WHEREAS, the coaching staff comprised of Mike Boisits, Ed Johannes, Vin Sarno and Mark Warner are to be commended for their efforts in training and guiding the Pomperaug Youth Baseball 14 Year Old Team; and

WHEREAS, the members of the team, John Boisits, Sean Daily, Connor Delaney, Ryan Johannes, Mike Karich, Nathan lewis, Dennis Mitchell, Joe O'Rourke, Devin Polomski, Nick Sarno, Zac Warner and Kyle Wilson are complimented for their skill, teamwork and enthusiasm in bringing this honor to Southbury;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ed Edelson, First Selectman of the Town of Southbury, on behalf of all its citizens, hereby congratulates the Pomperaug Youth Baseball 14 Year Old Team on being the District, State and New England Babe Ruth Champions, and wish them the best of luck in Utah, where they will be participating in the Babe Ruth 14 Year Old World Series.
