Southbury SportsBeat: Scoring Machines II

Patch highlights the Top 10 girls lacrosse players from the area in goal scoring.

1. SHAYNA DELANEY ) The junior attack has been in the top spot since the start of the season. She followed a nine-goal opening game with an incredible 11 goals in a 17-9 victory over Amity. 2 games, 20 goals. For the season, Delaney has 68 goals.

2. OLIVIA HOMPE () One of the greatest hockey players in the history of the state, Hompe is almost as accomplished in lacrosse. The junior, who has already committed to play lacrosse for Princeton, has led the high-powered Rams to a strong season. Hompe has ripped home 53 goals in 2012.

3. EMMY DULAK The junior midfielder has been an offensive juggernaut for North Branford this season. In a thrilling 17-16 victory over Old Lyme, Dulak scored five goals including the game-winner. Dulak has pumped in 51 goals this year.

4. SARAH MANNELLY (New Canaan) A brilliant three-sport athlete, Mannelly has team up with Olivia Hompe to give the Rams one of the most potent offensive attacks in the state. She has scored four or more goals an incredible six times in 2012. Mannelly has a total of 41 goals.

5. ALICIA CARDELLA () A prolific scorer, Cardella netted 54 goals and racked up 74 points during her junior season. In 2012, Cardella should surpass those marks. In a game against Pomperaug, she scored four times and has 40 goals this season.

6. OLIVIA SENNETT () Sennett is coming off a sophomore season that saw her find the net 29 times. She is on pace to shatter that mark in 2012. Sennett had three goals an assist in an 18-11 loss to Newton. She has scored 26 goals for the Falcons on the year.

7. MEREDITH BRIDGES (Newtown) Bridges scored 15 goals as a junior, but has improved her production significantly this season. The senior attack scored five times against Barlow and has 29 goals in 2012 for the Nighthawks.

8. ERIN KENNING () A supremely talented player, Kenning scored 33 times for the Nighthawks as a sophomore. This year, Kenning has been very productive, scoring six times in an 18-11 win over Barlow. Kenning has 29 goals on the season.

9. MEAGHAN BROPHY (Newtown) Brophy gives Newtown a trio of talented players. Last year as a freshman, she scored 17 goals and has taken her game to another level in 2012. Brophy scored three goals in a 9-7 win over Wilton and has scored 27 goals on 43 shots this season.

10. MEGAN GAFFNEY (Pomperaug) Gifted playmaker for Pomperaug. As a junior, Gaffney scored 17 goals and assisted on 40 others. In 2012, the senior attack leads the state with 31 assists and has stepped up her goal scoring, ripping the back of the net 25 times.
