Area Scouts Running Southbury Food Drive

Area scouts, led by Eagle Scout Grant Ward, will conduct a Southbury food drive later this month to benefit the Southbury Food Bank.

The drive comes at an opportune time as the food bank's summer donations are down significantly, according to a food bank spokesperson.

The Southbury Food Bank relies solely on food drives and monetary donations from the community and serves 185 households in Southbury.  Critical needs at this time are cereal, pasta sauce, tuna, canned meats, canned fruit, peanut butter and jelly.

The scouts will be placing bags at selected homes in Southbury on Saturday July 13.  Residents are asked to consider donating non-perishable and non-expired food items by filling up these bags and leaving them outside their homes. On July 20, the scouts will return to pick up the donated bags of food.

If residents would like to donate but do not receive a bag or miss the pick up, they can drop off food donations at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1021 Roxbury Road, Southbury, on Saturday July 20 between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
