State Trooper to Camp Out Atop Southbury Clock Tower

Unique fundraiser at Southbury Plaza to raise money for Special Olympics.

Trooper John Artes of the Connecticut State Police Troop A, with the cooperation of the Southbury Plaza Merchants Association and Gatto Development, will be conducting a unique fundraiser for Special Olympics Connecticut entitled, "Cop On Top".

Trooper Artes will be perched atop the clock tower, located in the center of the Southbury Plaza Shopping Center, September 23-25.  With a goal of raising $7,000 for Special Olympics Connecticut, Trooper Artes will stay on the clock tower until the goal is realized.

Armed with a bucket on a pulley and emergency flashing lights, the trooper will plead for donations that will eventually get him off the clock tower. Trooper Artes will be rising to the top of the clock tower at approximately 4 p.m on Friday, September 23 and will remain there until Sunday, September 25 at noon unless his goal is achieved earlier.

For a $10 donation people will be entered into a gift basket raffle featuring items donated by the Southbury Plaza merchants. Residents are encouraged to drive by and support Trooper John Artes and Special Olympics Connecticut.

For more information or to make a donation, people can log on to www.soct.org or call Sharon Pelkey at Special Olympics Northwest Region at (860)484-9283.
