Is Another 'Sandy' Heading Our Way?
While it's too soon to be sure, meteorologist Geoff Fox warns that the current computer model is "very similar" to what we saw last year.
Well-known Connecticut weatherman Geoff Fox hopes he's wrong, but it looks like we could be in for another Sandy.
Fox, a Hamden resident who has been predicting the weather for nearly three decades, says the Euro computer model is forecasting that a storm will impact the East Coast late this weekend into early next week.
Right now, Fox says, the storm is on a similar trajectory to Sandy, which devastated the region in 2012 with its hurricane-force winds, severe flooding and wide-scale power outages. Many communities are still rebuilding from Sandy.
"Make no mistake, it’s very early," he writes on his blog. "These two runs disagree on exactly where this storm will go, but they’re reasonably close. All the areas affected by Sandy are threatened again, probably late this weekend into early next week."
"I can’t emphasize too strongly, computer modeling is notoriously suspect this far out," Fox goes on to write. "However, you can’t dismiss the Euro’s uncanny accuracy last year in a very similar situation."
The forecast comes at the tail end of September, which is National Preparedness Month. Sandy hit at the end of October.
Fox ends his post this way: "I hope the Euro is wrong."
