  • Southbury, CT

My wife, Susan, and I moved to Southbury 35 years ago, when the DuPont Company transferred me from Wilmington, DE, to their Life Sciences facility located in Newtown, CT. While in Newtown, I was the Materials Manager and HR Manager. We searched for a town with good schools for our 2 young children, a short ride to work, and easy access to good transportation for our frequent visits to spend time with our families in Rochester NY. We chose Southbury. It was very attractive to us – a new high school, a convenient new shopping plaza, a good library, a new town hall, and a feeling of neighborhood with homes in our price range.

Over the last 30 plus years, we have watched our town grow and add wonderful amenities. We gather for summer concerts on the beautiful Southbury Green. We’ve added the new Senior Center, Parks & Rec offices, and our fabulous new Library. Southbury’s aesthetic charm and public safety was enhanced by the addition of sidewalks and street lights on Main Street and the parks and open spaces have preserved our rural character. Southbury is a beautiful place.

Two years ago, Susan and I decided to begin to ease into retirement and take stock of our lives and our future. The first question was, “Where do we want to live?” The answer came quickly for both of us. We love our town. We love our home, our friends, and our neighbors. This is where we want to stay. It is important to keep Southbury affordable and safe, and to preserve a strong sense of community for all of us.

We are actively engaged in a number of community activities and local business activities for which we now have time including teaching the Live Well Program at the Jewish Federation and the Thresholds decision-making programs at the Garner Correctional Institution in Newtown. I am also involved in the Southbury Business Association and am the President – Elect of the Tribury Rotary Club.

I am proud of Southbury’s past and want to ensure its future. As Southbury continues to grow, it is important that we pay attention to how growth affects our lifestyle. Southbury’s future prosperity depends on careful planning.

We must find the proper balance between preserving our rural character and history while encouraging a vibrant economy.

As your First Selectman, I will work with and support our dedicated town employees and volunteers whose knowledge and expertise have made Southbury such a wonderful town. Together, we can achieve a positive future so that Southbury is where other families want to call home, as Susan and I have for the past 35 years.
